Amazon Prime has added another horror thriller movie, Durgamati The Myth, to its list of films available on its streaming service. The movie was directed by G. Ashok and is a remake of the Telugu film Bhaagamathie. Bhumi Pednekar plays the lead role of Chanchal Chauhan, an IAS officer who is taken to a haunted mansion. While she is there, she encounters the spirit of a witness who wants to kill her. Meanwhile, her partner is also on the CBI’s radar, accused of mysteriously disappearing idols from ancient temples.
The film stars Bhumi Pednekar, Arshad Warsi, Jishu Sengupta, Karan Kapadia, and Mahie Gill. The film was produced by Bhushan Kumar, Akshay Kumar, and Vikram Malhotra, and is directed by G. Ashok. The film is based on the true story of Anushka Shetty. The film follows the rise and fall of a government officer who finds herself in the middle of a massive conspiracy.
The movie’s plot revolves around a political subplot involving stolen idols. It also includes vague rambling about black money and battered Hindu pride. While it is fun and entertaining, it is also largely pointless. Instead, it’s a misfire of Laxmii proportions. That being said, Laxmii’s filmmakers were proud of their work and dismissed the scathing criticisms.
In the movie, Ishwar Prasad, a politician, vows to quit if the government doesn’t recover the stolen idols. His political rivals devise a plan to sabotage Ishwar’s credibility and the movie follows Ishwar and Abhay’s attempt to interrogate Chanchal Chauhan. Chanchal has been accused of murdering Abhay’s brother and is now in jail. The rest of the plot follows her search for the truth.
The premise of the film is a great one, but the execution is lackluster. Its overly ambitious plot and uninspired editing leave little room for surprises. Even the most devoted cineaste would have trouble believing that such a story could be based on true events. Nevertheless, if you want to watch Durgamati, the movie is a must-watch for anyone interested in the subject.
